After a long relationship with Netflix, French comedy superstar Dany Boon announced his new project for the platform: his first-ever TV series. Here is what was revealed about the project.
As revealed last night by French local media La Voix du Nord, and soon confirmed with a press release and a short Instagram video by Boon himself, French comedy veteran Dany Boon is set to come back to Netflix in 2027 with a 6-episode project entitled Johnny Biloute (a play on words between Johnny B. Goode and Northern France slang for young man, slang extensively used by Dany Boon on his own projects).
The project was teased in 2025 as in the writing stages, but it has now been revealed that the comedy will also pay extensive tribute to the legendary French rock star Johnny Hallyday. 2027 will mark a decade since his death, and a biopic is being fast-tracked for release in late 2027.
Boon will play Rudy, a kind-hearted biker at the helm of a Northern France-based biker gang entitled the Biloute Bikers, “who is ready to do anything to defend his biker gang and the memory of Johnny Hallyday”. The logline, obtained by Allociné, elaborates :
“When his biker gang is threatened by the building of a casino in the small Northern town of Tartinghem, Rudy decides to fight to save his locale that unites his two passions. Alongside his best friend Teddy and his daughter Gabrielle, he starts a rock’n’roll fight to honor the memory of the Boss (editor’s note : “le Taulier” in French, referring to Hallyday and not Bruce Springsteen).”
The shoot is scheduled for next April, in Northern France and Belgium. Dany Boon wrote all 6 episodes, created the series, and is set to direct all of them. The additional cast has yet to be announced. Boon was friends with Johnny Hallyday and had considered him for several of his movie projects before he passed. Even though no additional details have been revealed, it’s not a stretch to assume the series will make extensive use of Hallyday’s catalog and music.
On the Netflix front, global subscribers know Dany Boon from his appearances in the two Murder Mystery movies alongside Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston; he also wrote and directed the platform’s 8 Rue de L’Humanité in 2021. The movie was seen as a big “get” for the platform, as Boon is still a bankable name on the movie side in France; his movies around Northern France characters and culture, Welcome To The Sticks (2003) and La Ch’Tite Famille (2018) smashed French box-office records, among other career highlights. The North of France is also seen as a prolific area for Netflix shoots; that is also where the comedy Recalé, created by François Uzan, was shot. That show should be premiering within the next few months.
