‘Blue Eye Samurai’ Renewed for Season 3 at Netflix; Slated for 2028 Release

If you thought the January 2027 release date and the stunning first-look images for Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 were the only treats Netflix had in store for us this weekend, think again. In a massive show of confidence, Netflix has officially renewed the Emmy-winning animated epic for Season 3!
Even better? The wait won’t be nearly as grueling this time around. Netflix confirmed that Season 3 is already slated to hit our screens in 2028.
The bombshell announcement was made during Netflix’s stacked panel at Anime NYC this weekend, turning what was already a massive news day for the show into an all-out celebration for fans of Mizu’s blood-soaked journey.
Here is a breakdown of the massive news out of Anime NYC for Blue Eye Samurai.
Season 3 is Officially Happening (and Coming Soon!)
Creators Michael Green and Amber Noizumi have previously stated that they had a multi-season plan mapped out for Mizu’s tale of revenge. With Season 2 shifting the narrative to 17th-century London, an early greenlight for Season 3 ensures that the creative team can keep the momentum going without skipping a beat and indeed, we’ve known for well over a year now that seasons 2 and 3 were being produced together.
Episode count is currently unknown, but as we’ve covered elsewhere, season 2 will consist of six episodes, so don’t be surprised if season 3 has the same count. Season 3 is expected to be the final season, given it was described as an “epic conclusion production announcement,” per IGN.
The most exciting part of the announcement is the 2028 release window. While fans have had to endure a multi-year wait between the first season and the upcoming January 2027 release of Season 2, it seems the production pipeline is now operating at full steam, drastically reducing the wait time for the third outing.

Anime NYC Attendees Got a Season 2 Exclusive
While the rest of the world was busy digesting the brand-new teaser trailer and the two new official screenshots of Mizu looking battle-ready on the docks, the lucky crowd at Anime NYC got something even better. Netflix treated the audience to an exclusive, closed-doors screening of the first 10 minutes of Season 2, of which we’ll have more coverage on soon.
While Netflix is keeping the actual footage locked in the vault for now, attendees have been buzzing about the opening sequence. Based on the official teaser that was released to the public, it’s safe to assume those opening 10 minutes detail the harrowing, stormy sea voyage teased at the end of Season 1, featuring Mizu and a captive Abijah Fowler on their way to Europe.
Let’s recap all the news for Blue Eye Samurai today:
Season 2 Release Window: Officially confirmed for January 2027.
First Looks: Two brand-new images showing Mizu in her new blue attire, gripping her meteorite sword.
Teaser Trailer: A brief but brutal look at the smog-filled streets of London and Mizu doing what she does best in a European tavern.
Season 3 Renewal: Officially greenlit and arriving in 2028.
We will continue to track all the latest news, casting updates, and exact release dates for both Season 2 and Season 3 as soon as Netflix provides them.
