Bollywood Beats South Movies:- ‘Kashmir Files’ Becomes Most Popular IMDb Film Beating ‘RRR’, ‘Vikram’
Amid the debate about South Indian cinema taking over Bollywood, the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has released a list of the top 10 most popular Indian films of 2022, so far, and it is the Hindi cinema that has ruled the charts.
The list contains 10 films out of which 6 belong to Bollywood and 4 are from South Indian cinemas with one each from Kannada, Telugu, Tamil & Malayalam film industries.
The controversial film is followed by Prashanth Neel’s Kannada mega-blockbuster KGF: Chapter 2 starring Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Srinidhi Shetty & Raveena Tandon. Meanwhile, at the top of the list is Vivek Agnihotri’s blockbuster The Kashmir Files starring Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher & Darshan Kumar.
At the third spot in SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR starring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt & Ajay Devgan. Alia Bhatt & Ajay Devgan take the fourth spot as well with Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Kamal Haasan’s all-time Tamil blockbuster Vikram rounding off the top five.
According to IMDb, the criteria for the list is based on page views rather than the rating: “Of all the movies released theatrically or digitally in India between January 1 and July 5, 2022, and that have an average IMDb user rating of 7 or higher, these 10 titles generated the most IMDb page views in India within a four-week post-release window, based on IMDbPro data.
The other five films in the list include one OTT release Yami Gautam’s A Thursday, two box office flops – Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj & Ajay Devgan Runway 34 and the Malayalam critical & commercial hit, Hridayam starring Mohanlal’s son Pranav Mohanlal.
