‘Boycott Pathaan, burn theatres if…’: Ayodhya’s Mahant amid SRK film row

The Mahant of Ayodhya’s Hanuman Garhi Raju Das has objected to Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s upcoming movie ‘Pathaan’, appealing to the public to boycott it. In a video message, the mahant can be heard saying, “I appeal to people to set those theatres on fire where Pathaan will be screened”. Pathaan’s movie’s first song, Besharam Rang, which was dropped recently, has landed in a controversy after Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra frowned upon the color of the attire of Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan, calling for its ‘rectification’. The BJP leader has called for a ban on the movie over ‘objectionable scenes’ and the use of saffron costumes.

“Bollywood and Hollywood constantly try to find ways to make fun of Sanatan Dharma and insult Hindu Gods and Goddesses. In the Pathaan movie, Deepika Padukone wore a bikini which hurt the religious sentiments of saints and of the entire country. Shahrukh Khan constantly makes fun of Sanatan Dharma. What was the need to wear a saffron bikini and perform such steps in the song?” Mahant Raju Das asked in a video. He went on to allege that this was deliberately done to hurt religious sentiments and strict action should be taken against these people. “I appeal to the audience to boycott the film and burn the theatres wherever the film will be screened, adding that the makers of the film should be treated in the same manner,” he added.

PATHAAN MOVIE CONTROVERSY:-

Boycott Pathaan has emerged as one of the top Twitter trends after a section of netizens objected to Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Besharam Rang. The film is slated to release on January 25, 2023. Activists of an outfit on Wednesday staged a protest against the upcoming Bollywood film ‘Pathaan’ and its song ‘Besharam Rang’ in MP’s Indore. An effigy of Shah Rukh Khan was burnt as an outfit carried out a protest against Pathaan movie in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore and called for its ban for “hurting Hindu sentiments”.

The Madhya Pradesh home minister has said if certain scenes in the song are not ‘corrected’, the government will consider what to do about the screening of the movie in Madhya Pradesh. Swami Chakrapani Maharaj also wrote in a tweet in Hindi, “There has been an insult of saffron and Hindu Sanskrit in Shah Rukh Khan’s film Pathaan. Why is the film censor board sleeping? We will impose a ban! The Hindu Mahasabha will oppose it. Swami Chakrapani Maharaj, National President, All India Hindu Mahasabha (sic).”
