Everything New on Netflix This Week and Top 10 Movies & Series: September 26, 2026

As we officially close out September, the leaves are starting to turn, the air is getting crisper, and the spookiest month of the year is right around the corner. Over the past seven days, Netflix delivered a very healthy 47 new releases (30 movies and 17 series). This is your end-of-week recap for everything new and trending on Netflix US.
With October essentially here, we are officially declaring it spooky season! From now until October 31st, we will be featuring dedicated Halloween Highlights in our weekly recommendations to help you get your scare on.

Best New Movies and Shows on Netflix This Week
Unabomber (2026)
Type: Movie
Genre: Biography, Crime, Drama
Starring Russell Crowe and Jacob Tremblay, this brand-new true-crime docudrama explores the psychological origins of infamous domestic terrorist Ted Kaczynski. Told across two timelines, the film splits its focus between the 1990s FBI manhunt (led by a fictionalized agent played by Shailene Woodley) and a 16-year-old Kaczynski’s time at Harvard, where he was subjected to intense, psychologically damaging experiments by Professor Henry Murray (Crowe). In our full review of the film, we noted that while the overall story can be uneven, Crowe absolutely shines as the charismatic but terrifyingly manipulative professor. Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

One of the biggest, most universally beloved blockbusters of the decade has officially touched down on Netflix. Tom Cruise returns to his iconic role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, who is called back to the elite TOPGUN academy to train a detachment of hot-shot young graduates (including Miles Teller and Glen Powell) for a near-impossible, highly classified mission. With jaw-dropping, practical aerial stunts and a massive emotional core, it’s the ultimate crowd-pleaser for your weekend movie night.
HALLOWEEN HIGHLIGHTS
Knock at the Cabin (2023)

If you love a tense, claustrophobic psychological thriller, M. Night Shyamalan’s apocalyptic horror film is a fantastic way to kick off the Halloween season. While vacationing at a remote cabin in the woods, a young girl and her two fathers are taken hostage by four armed strangers (led by a terrifyingly soft-spoken Dave Bautista). The captors demand that the family make an unthinkable, gruesome choice in order to avert the impending apocalypse. It’s a gripping, nail-biting watch from start to finish.
Oculus (2013)
Type: Movie
Genre: Horror, Mystery | Runtime: 1h 44m
Before he was creating massive Netflix horror hits like The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, horror maestro Mike Flanagan directed this brilliant, mind-bending gem. Starring Karen Gillan, the film follows a young woman attempting to exonerate her brother for murder by proving that the true culprit is a cursed, malevolent antique mirror that has haunted their family for centuries. It’s incredibly clever and relies on creeping psychological dread rather than cheap jump scares. Netflix is also adding another Flanagan favorite, Husk, on October 1st as part of its Halloween lineup.

Now, let’s take a look at what people have actually been watching on Netflix US over the past seven days!
Over on the movies list, action reigns supreme. Guy Ritchie’s explosive WWII flick The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare skyrocketed to the #1 spot, locking in 76 points. Last week’s highlight, the feel-good martial arts drama Best of the Best, saw a massive jump as word-of-mouth spread, claiming #2 (62 points). Last week’s champion, Why Did I Get Married Again?, slipped down to #4 (51 points).
We’re also seeing the immediate impact of this week’s monster arrivals. Top Gun: Maverick flew straight onto the charts at #6 (35 points) and will undoubtedly challenge for the top spot next week. Meanwhile, our Halloween highlight Knock at the Cabin is already getting folks in the spooky spirit, debuting nicely at #10 (13 points).

On the TV Series charts, the Halloween season has officially started early! Ryan Murphy’s grisly true-crime anthology Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story completely dominated viewership, leaping to the #1 spot with 77 points.
Comedy also proved to be a massive draw this week, with Jo Koy’s stand-up special Blue in the Face jumping up to #2 (58 points). Last week’s champion Crew Girl slides down to a very respectable #3 position (54 points). Reality TV lovers also turned out in droves for this week’s fresh competition series, pushing our highlight Wonka’s The Golden Ticket to a solid #8 debut (24 points).
