SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ Oscars Campaign Cost Is 5 Times The Budget Of Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara’

It’s been more than eight months since RRR was released and SS Rajamouli is still busy promoting the film in the US after the newfound global fandom and the huge Oscars buzz.

The period action epic was said to be the favorite to win the Oscars in the Best International Feature category but unfortunately for the makers, the Indian jury decided to give it a skip and went with another film (Chhello Show). However, the makers then decided to send for the Oscars independently considering the huge hype around the film amongst the Hollywood media, celebs & audiences.

And now, a new report has claimed that the makers have set a massive Oscars campaign budget of RRR which is said to be Rs 80 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama.

The report further stated that SS Rajamouli along with NTR Jr and Ram Charan are “pulling out all stops” to make sure that their film attracts the attention of the jury and becomes a strong contender for the number of categories the film has been sent to The Academy. For context, the mere budget of the Oscars campaign for RRR is 5 times bigger than the entire budget of the latest Kannada blockbuster Kantara. The Rishab Shetty directorial is said to be made on a budget of Rs 16 crore.

In fact, it is higher than the budget of most Hindi releases this year and is 20 percent less than the production budget of this year’s biggest Hindi grosser KGF: Chapter 2. The Yash starrer’s reported budget was Rs 100 crore. Also featuring Ajay Devgan, Alia Bhatt, Alison Doody, Ray Stevenson and Olivia Morris, RRR has been submitted for Oscars consideration in 15 categories including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Song, Best Original Score, Best Visual Effects & Best Original Screenplay among others.
