Veera Simha Reddy Movie Review: Balakrishna packs a punch in this template action entertainer
Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy opened in theatres today, January 12. It created a fair deal of buzz among the mass audience prior to its release as it features the veteran actor in an intense avatar that does justice to his grand reel image. The film stars Shruti Haasan as the leading lady and marks her first collaboration with Balayya. Her glamorous looks have added to the curiosity surrounding the flick. The music too appears to be a highlight, as tracks such as Mass Mogodu and Jai Balayya have hit the right notes.
These factors should help Veera Simha Reddy open well at the box office. The buzz in trade circles is that it will collect a share of around Rs 14 crore in the Telugu states on the opening day.
Meanwhile, here is a look at the box office performances of Balakrishna’s last five films.
1> AKHANDA (2021):-
Akhanda featured the Balakrishna in two distinct avatars and proved to be a treat for the masses. Its action sequences and punch dialogues helped it make an impact at the box office despite mixed reviews. Akhanda collected Rs 59.4 crore during its full run. It is considered to be a blockbuster as its pre-release business was around 46 crore. Akhanda’s cast included Pragya Jaiswal, Poorna, Subbaraju, and Nithin Mehta.
2> RULER (2019):-
Balakrishna suffered a setback when Ruler, directed by KS Ravikumar, bombed at the box office. The film opened on a decent note and collected Rs 4 crore on the first day. It, however, failed to sustain as the word of mouth wasn’t favorable. The film collected merely Rs 7 crore in the Telugu states and recovered only 21% of its pre-release business.
3> NTR MAHANAYAKUDU (2019):-
NTR Mahanayakudu, a sequel to Kathanayakudu, hit screens with little to fanfare. As a result, it ended up being one of the biggest flops of Balakrishna’s career. The flick collected a dismal Rs 2.5 crore during its run. The biopic featured Nandamuri Balakrishna as the legendary mass leader and his father Sr NTR. It highlighted Annagaru’s rise in politics. NTR Mahanayakudu had an ensemble cast that included Kalyan Ram, Rana Daggubati, and Vidya Balan. NTR Kathanayakudu became the talk of the town prior to its release as it was based on Sr NTR’s priceless contribution towards making Telugu cinema a force to reckon with. This helped it rake in a respectable Rs 6 crore on its first day. It, however, witnessed limited growth because of its lack of mass elements. NTR Kathanayakudu earned nearly Rs 15 crore during its full run. It is regarded as a commercial failure as its pre-release business was around Rs 54 crore.
