Vijay’s ‘Varisu’ Rs 210 Cr Biz Claim Disputed By TN Theater & Multiplex Assoc. President

Thalapathy Vijay starrer Varisu which clashed at the box office with Thala Ajith’s Thunivu has collected Rs 210 Crore at the worldwide box office, claimed its makers in a recent social media post. However, M Subramaniam aka Tiruppur Subramaniam, a noted distributor & Tamil Nadu Theater Owners & Multiplex Association president has disputed these claims calling the box office collections fake. He has alleged that the producer 7 Screen Studio is advertising “big” box office collections because they are also producing Vijay’s next film, the untitled Thalapathy 67.

He told Polimer News, “It (Rs. 210 Cr WW gross) is 200% not possible… Lalith (of 7 Screen Studio) presented (Varisu) in Tamil Nadu alone, that too 5 of the area distribution was given to (Udhayanidhi Stalin’s) Red Giant Movies. He (Lalith) might know the remaining areas’ collections. That too not this fast. Overseas distribution was done by some other banner. So how come he came to know of the complete collection status of all areas worldwide?” He continued, “If it was a single release, this was worth considering. But (Varisu had) Thunivu as a competitor, which too is having a good run. A collection to the extent claimed by them (Varisu producers Sri Venkateswara Creations and distributors) is not possible..”

In another interview, Subramaniam also stated that to know the actual collections of Varisu & Thunivu, one should contact Lalith Kumar, Dil Raju & Boney Kapoor, respectively. Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, Varisu is a family entertainer also starring Rashmika Mandanna in the lead role. After the failure of Vijay’s last release Beast, with Varisu, he has made a much required box office comeback.
