5 Latest Releases To Watch On Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar This Week
As we stand a week from Christmas, the OTT platforms are storing their Christmas New Year content preserved for the last week. Meanwhile, they have some new exciting films and sequels of series as well as films that have already been released in theatres with films that set the premise for fun and homecoming feels. We have curated a list of five films and series that you can binge from the comfort of your homes, all tucked in your blanket, this weekend as the Christmas and New Year’s countdown begins.
1> Govinda Naam Mera (Hotstar- December 16):-
Actor Vicky Kaushal and filmmaker Karan Johar had announced their first venture together, Govinda Naam Mera, through a fun video a couple of months earlier. The film was initially scheduled to release in theatres on June 11, 2022. However, it was halted and now it is set to release on Disney+ Hotstar on December 16. Directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced under the banner of Dharma Productions, the film also stars Kiara Advani as Kaushal’s girlfriend and Bhumi Pednekar as his wife.
2> Code Name: Tiranga (Netflix- December 16):-
Starring Parineeti Chopra and Hardy Sandhu, the Hindi spy action drama film Code Name: Tiranga was released in thetares on October 14. Written and directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, the film is jointly produced by T-Series, Reliance Entertainment, and Film Hangar. The film follows the journey of a RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) agent across many countries as she is on an unwavering and fearless mission for her nation in a race against time.
3> A Storm For Christmas (Netflix- December 16):-
A Storm For Christmas is a mini-series coming on Netflix on December 16 which celebrates homecoming on the occasion of Christmas and New Year. It follows a group of people who arrive at the Oslo airport either to welcome their loved ones or to fly home to their families or to fly away and escape the Christmas mood altogether.
4> Indian Predator: Beast of Bangalore (Netflix- December 16):-
Indian Predator is a true-crime docu-series streaming on Netflix whose first installment, The Butcher of Delhi premiered on July 20 this year and the second installment Indian Predators, Murder in a Courtroom premiered last month. The third upcoming installment Indian Predator: beast of Bangalore is based on a vicious predator’s brutal and murderous pursuit of women who sends a faltering police force on a wild hunt as a state reels in terror, as per its synopsis.
5> Ariyippu (Netflix- December 16):-
Malayalam actor Kunchacko Boban’s Ariyippu, which was selected for screening at the 27th Busan Film Festival this year, is set to have an OTT release on December 16 on Netflix. The film is set in Noida during the coronavirus pandemic-induced lockdown when a Malayali couple dreamt of migrating out of the country for a better future. At the time, a sensitive and manipulative video was circulated among their co-workers which led to an unexpected social and marital imbalance between the couple. The film also premiered at the Concorso international (international competition section) of the 75th Locarno Film Festival this year where it was also nominated for the Golden Leopard.
