From The Rings of Power to House of the Dragon, here are the most expensive shows of 2022

The colossal success of streaming platforms in the last 5 years has been a game-changer. As per reports, The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings of Power which premiered on Amazon Prime Video, is the costliest web series of 2022. Made on a budget of nearly $465 million, The Rings of Power has spent most of its budget on the VFX and special effects. The series is touted to be the most expensive mounting for the streaming platform in recent times.

MOST EXPENSIVE WEB SHOWS:-

Coming second on the most expensive list is Stranger Things Season 4 which again broke records for Netflix. The show recorded 1.4 billion hours of viewership globally, coming second to Netflix’s own show Squid Game. The show was made on the budget of $270 million, which is half of The Rings of Power.

Priyanka Chopra starrer Citadel ranks third. The yet-to-be-released show is made on the budget of $250 million, as per reports followed by the recently released House of the Dragon. House of the Dragon broke records for HBO viewership by recording nearly 10 million viewers. The second episode went on to record more than 10.2 million viewers. The HBO show, which is also available on Disney Plus Hotstar, was made on a budget of $200 million.

The cast of The Rings of Power along with the showrunner JD Payne even visited India for the promotions of the show recently. Stranger Things had a junket arranged in Australia, while House of the Dragon had a virtual press junket for the global audience.

ABOUT THE SHOWS:-

Out of the four, three shows are consecutive seasons or a prequel to a much-loved adventure fantasy show. House of the Dragon is a prequel to Game of Thrones. The Rings of Power is also set nearly 200 years before the Lord of the Rings premise took place. On the other hand, Stranger Things Season 4 returned after years of waiting for loyal fans. The show will air its finale season in 2023-2024.
