‘Ponniyin Selvan’ earns 290 crores in 5 days . ‘Godfather’ and ‘The Ghost’ have a slow start
Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film ‘Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1’ has collected Rs 151.55 crore at the box office in five days. On Monday, on the fourth day, when there was a decline of about 45 percent in the film’s earnings, on Tuesday, the film took off. The film has done business of Rs 22 crore in all five languages on the 5th day. The highest earnings come from the Tamil version. On Tuesday, the Tamil version did a business of Rs 18.85 crore. Although the condition of the film in the Hindi version is slim, but in Tamil Nadu, the film is making new records every day.
Worldwide earnings of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ have crossed Rs 290 crores in 5 days. The craze about the film in the Tamil version can be gauged from the fact that it has collected Rs 123.5 crore from Tamil in 5 days. After this, Telugu has the highest turnover of Rs 12.8 crore. It has become the highest-grossing Tamil film in the first five days of 2022. It has surpassed the earnings of Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’.
‘Ponniyin Selvan’ got the benefit of Dussehra:-
‘Ponniyin Selvan’ collected Rs 36.5 crore nationwide on its opening day. Out of this, the film earned Rs 29.55 crore only from the Tamil version. The film stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karti, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha in lead roles along with Chiyaan Vikram. The story is based on the Chola dynasty. There is a tremendous craze for PS-1 in Tamil Nadu. Even on the fifth day of release, 68 out of 100 seats in theaters are seen to be filled. On Monday, the film got a big setback on the first weekday, but due to the Durga Puja holiday, the film benefited.

The condition of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, made in a budget of about Rs 500 crore, is very bad in the Hindi version. The film is struggling in North India from day one. On Tuesday too, the film has earned just Rs 1.55 crore in Hindi. The film has done a business of Rs 11.30 crore in 5 days from the Hindi version. The film’s earnings are going to be good on Wednesday and Thursday also due to the Dussehra holiday. Whereas in the second weekend also, it can keep its hold. However, on October 5, Chiranjeevi’s ‘Godfather’ and Nagarjuna’s ‘The Ghost’ have also released. Due to this, the earnings of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ are definitely going to be affected.
