Vivek Slams ‘One & Only Milord’ Anurag For Saying ‘Kantara’ & ‘Pushpa’ Destroying Industry

At a recent roundtable interview, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap talked about the massive success of films like Kantara & Pushpa: The Rise and stated how they are ‘destroying the film industries’ as many filmmakers are now trying to replicate what these films achieved and are failing at it. He said in a Galatta Plus interview, “I was talking to Nagraj (Manjule), and I said, ‘You know Sairat destroyed Marathi cinema?’ The success of Sairat. It made people realize that there is a possibility to make so much money. Suddenly, Umesh Kulkarni’s and everybody else, stopped making those films, because everybody wanted to emulate Sairat.”

He added, “With pan-India, what is happening right now is that everyone is trying to make a pan-Indian film. But the success will be 5% or 10%. A movie like Kantara or Pushpa gives you the courage to go out and tell your story, but with KGF 2, however big the success, when you try and set a project up, that starts to head towards disaster. It’s a bandwagon that Bollywood destroyed itself on.” Sharing just the screenshot of the headline of an article instead of Anurag’s actual quote, The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri tweeted, “I totally totally totally disagree with the views of Bollywood’s one & only Milord. A number of social media users called out Vivek for either not reading Anurag’s full quote or deliberately sharing just the screenshot to mislead people.

Gulshan Devaiah who has worked with Vivek Agnihotri in his 2012 film Hate Story wrote, “Good sir… For a guy who does a lot of research for his films, you’ve spoken hastily without full knowledge & nuance. You just wanted to take a sh*t on AK it seems.” A user wrote, “first read what he said. he had nothing but praise about Kantara, Pushpa, RRR etc. He said people who simply copy Kantara or Pushpa without working on original content will not be successful. What is wrong in that?” A second user wrote, “didn’t verify before sharing a article @vivekagnihotri”. A third user tweeted, “Sir, as due of respect plz don’t rely on incomplete twisted headlines or news. Share the link of full interview. Try to understand the context of @anuragkashyap72 he is asking the film makers not to with the hits copy. But to keep the roots of content.”
