Vikrant Rona releasing OTT at ZEE 5 on 02nd September 2022

Vikrant Rona is an action-adventure fantasy movie written and directed by Anup Bhandari. The movie casts Sudeep, Nirup Bhandari, Neetha Ashok, and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles along with Ravishankar Gowda, Madhusudan Rao, Vasuki Vaibhav, Siddu Moolimani, Chitkala Biradar, Ramesh Rai, Ranjan Shetty, Yogish Shetty, Samhita, and many others seen in supporting roles. The music was composed by B Ajaneesh Loknath while cinematography is done by William David and edited by Ashik Kusugolli. The film is produced by Shalini Manjunath and Jack Manju under Kichcha Creations, Shalini Arts banners.


The film’s story is set in a haunted place called Kamorottu. The movie starts with the murder of a police officer, and the serial killing of kids follows. Vikrant Rona (Sudeep) is assigned to solve these mysterious deaths. Who is behind all these deaths and how Vikrant Rona finds the serial killer forms the rest of the story.

Production and Development:-

Anup Bhandari and Sudeep were to collaborate on a project titled Billa Ranga Baasha; however, the film was put on hold after Sudeep heard another script from Anup. Sudeep decided to produce the film with newcomers playing the lead roles, but after listening to the script, he decided to star in it himself.


The first photoshoot began on 01st March 2020, and filming began on 2 March at Hyderabad under the title Phantom. Sudeep started filming Kotigobba 3 and Phantom simultaneously. Originally, producers planned to cast Sudeep’s nephew Sanchith Sanjeev but chose Nirup Bhandari instead. The team preparing for the second schedule of the COVID-19 pandemic was badly hit and the work was halted. The crew announced on 13th June that they would resume shooting in July.

On 16th July 2020, they resumed their work at Annapurna Studios, Hyderabad, by constructing a huge dense forest set amid the pandemic. The majority of the filming was done at Annapurna Studios and Ramoji Film City Hyderabad. Malshej Ghat, Mahabaleshwar, and Kerala were also used for shooting.


Jacqueline Fernandez was roped in for a prominent role and a song appearance, while Anup Bhandari’s brother Nirup Bhandari and other actors and actresses like Neetha Ashok, Ravishankar Gowda, Madhusudhan Rao, and Vasuki Vaibhav also play pivotal roles.


The film was originally planned to be made on a budget of *15 crore, but due to the scale of the project, the budget was increased to *95 crore.


Music director B. Ajaneesh Loknath composed the songs and background music for the movie and it is his first collaboration with actor Sudeep. Lahari Music and T-Series own the music rights to the film.

Theatrical Release:-

The film will be released worldwide on 28th July 2022 in 3D. The film was originally scheduled to be released on 19th August 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting was postponed to 24th February 2022, and then to 28th July 2022. The film will also be dubbed and released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, English, Malayalam, and other languages.


Bollywood actor Salman Khan distributed the Hindi version in his home banner Salman Khan Pictures and PVR Pictures all over North India. The overseas rights have been bought by One Twenty-8 Media. The Kerala distribution rights of the film are acquired by Dulquer Salman’s Wayfarer Films. The Tamil Nadu distribution rights of the film were acquired by Zee Studios while the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana distribution rights were acquired by Cosmos Entertainment.

OTT and Satellite Rights:-

The satellite and digital rights of the Kannada version have been purchased by Zee Kannada and ZEE5, respectively. ZEE5 releasing on 02nd September 2022

Theatrical Release:-

Vikrant Rona movie was released in theaters on 28th July 2022 in 3D and 2D.
